Typically reserved for drivers, titanium provides a significant weight and strength advantage compared to traditional steel hybrids. Combined with Callaway’s Triaxial Carbon crown and Forged Carbon sole, this unique construction results in 100g of discretionary weight savings. Callaway utilized this opportunity to strategically place internal tungsten weights and a Forged Carbon sole plate which work in unison to yield faster ball speeds, a higher launch, and more forgiveness. Additionally, the sole plate creates a slight draw bias, a boon to those who struggle with the dreaded slice. Callaway bestowed the Great Big Bertha with a slightly more compact, fairway-wood like shape and more sole camber to improve turf interaction and versatility from tough lies. The hybrid’s adjustable hosel allows golfers to dial in the perfect launch and shot shape. In keeping with the lightweight properties of the Bertha, Callaway powers the hybrid with UST’s Helium Nanocore Black graphite shaft. The shaft’s Nanocore Technology reduces overall weight while also adding stiffness for maximum mobility. The Helium Nanocore also utilizes a counter balanced design, which reduces heft, thus helping gain more club head speed with the same effort.
