Description
From jump lines to techy singletrack, the Santa Cruz 5010 is our bike of choice when we need a nimble and aggressive trail bike. With a lightweight frame, mixed-wheel setup, 130mm of VPP suspension, and aggressive geometry, the 5010 was made for riding fast, jumping high, and finessing its way through technical trails. With a 65. 2-degree head tube angle in the high setting, the 5010 is not only a blast to ride but also more capable than its short-travel numbers suggest. With short size-specific chainstays to ensure a poppy and playful rear end for every frame size and a steep 77-degree seat tube angle to put us in a perfect climbing position when it’s time for another lap, the 5010 is a balanced trail bike that does everything right. The 5010’s suspension kinematics also got an update, featuring a more supportive mid-stroke to aid bottom-out resistance and a lower anti-squat value to reduce pedal kickback. Additional features on the 5010 include chainstay and downtube protectors to protect our frame from chain slap and rock strikes, and a shuttle guard allows us to drive to the trailhead with our bike in the back of our truck bed. Finally, when we have a big day planned at the bike park or want to make our ride a bit more capable, we use the Flip Chip in the rear shock link to make our head tube angle slacker and our bottom bracket height lower so we have a better center of gravity and more confidence in steeper terrain. The S build of the Santa Cruz 5010 features quality components at a more budget-friendly price point. First, Santa Cruz’s Carbon C frame is stiff and lightweight and is made to the same standards as Santa Cruz’s Carbon CC frame but at a slight weight penalty. RockShox’s Select+ series gives us quality suspension performance, fitting us with the Pike Select+ up front with 140mm of travel to soak up the big hits and a Super Deluxe Select+ in the rear to give us confidence and traction off every drop and around every switchback.
